Akútne cerebrovaskulárne ochorenia sú stále častou príčinou smrti, ale aj nesebestačnosti pacientov. Preto okrem skúmania etiopatogenetických činiteľov a rizikových faktorov je realizácia včasnej a presnej diagnostiky prvým predpokladom účinnej liečby. Takáto liečba je časovo náročná, je nevyhnutné, aby iniciálne zhodnotenie stavu pacienta bolo rýchle a mohla sa mu poskytnúť adekvátna liečba ischemickej mozgovej príhody, a jej komplikácií. V článku sa podáva prehľad najčastejších etiopatogenetických činiteľov, klinických príznakov, diagnostických postupov a akútnych liečebných opatrení.
