Autor podává přehled fyziologických změn spánku ve stáří a při chorobách, které se ve stáří vyskytují. Dále jsou krátce představeny nejčastějąí poruchy spánku ve stáří se zvláątním důrazem na syndrom neklidných nohou, na poruchu dýchání ve spánku a na abnormální chování v REM spánku.
