Vegetativní stav (apalický syndrom)

Incidence pacientů s vegetativním stavem se každoročně zvětšuje. Termín vegetativní stav dostatečně výstižně koreluje se současnými patofyziologickými znalostmi a lze jej akceptovat jako obecně užívaný pojem odpovídající patofyziologické podstatě syndromu rozlišit ve svém názvosloví pravděpodobnou možnost uzdravení a nebo setrvání ve VS. Byly zavedeny termíny vegetativní stav, persistentní vegetativní stav a permanentní vegetativní stav, které odlišují délku trvání tohoto stavu od počátku onemocnění a mají rozdílnou prognózu ve vztahu k možnému parciálnímu a nebo úplnému uzdravení. Prognóza pacienta je rovněž dána charakterem primárního onemocnění, komorbiditami a komplikacemi v průběhu vegetativního stavu.V péči o pacienty s vegetativním stavem hraje důležitou roli mimo lékařskou péči zejména sesterská a ošetřovatelská péče a rehabilitace.
